The goal of Core Training is to enhance attorneys’ client management skills by familiarizing them with foundational psychological principles. Core Training groups are small, typically consisting of 4-8 attorneys (from different states); members meet for 2 hours between 6 and 10 times over the course of a year (i.e. once every 1-2 months). Group meetings are tailored to the needs of participants, and include some combination of didactic instruction, group discussion, case conceptualization, skill-based exercises, role-playing, and review of videotape. Core Training offers a safe, supportive, and encouraging environment in which to master the skills associated with increased interpersonal effectiveness.
